Your package includes one nights accommodation in a private cabin, three meals and a guided tour of Nikau Cave.
Enjoy gentle adventure exploring Nikau Cave – a unique experience only an hour and a half’s drive south from Auckland on the West Coast. On your guided tour you will be more than just passive observers; at times you’ll be on your hands and knees making your way along the bed of an ancient stream, at others you will stand awe-struck in glowworm filled caverns lined with stalagmites and stalactites thousands of years old.
The cave trip departs from the café and you’ll walk through a working farm before entering beautiful native bush. At the end of the trip you emerge into the green of the bush again and up on to the farm, where you can catch a glimpse of the sea, before returning to the café.
Minimum age is 7 years old. Persons must be able to crawl, walk on uneven surfaces and balance on rocks. Nikau cave can be readily negotiated by most people of average fitness. Feet will get wet, and a change of clothing will be required. Torches and helmets are provided for everyone.
Flooding in the cave is rare, however this may result in postponement.
