Take a half day trip on the Taieri Gorge Railway to enjoy a return train ride from Dunedin’s spectacular railway station to Pukerangi or Middlemarch. Considered to be one of the great train trips of the world, this is one of the most popular activities in Dunedin.
This all-weather trip includes sightseeing stops, has a live commentary, on-board licensed café and travels through spectacular, ever-changing scenery. The trip is particularly suitable for visitors who wish to experience beautiful scenery and wild wilderness landscapes.
The train departs from downtown Dunedin daily in winter and twice daily throughout the rest of the year.
Availability
Excursions operate daily for Pukerangi (far end of the gorge):
May to September: 12.30 pm, returning at 4.30 pm
October to April: 2.30 pm, returning at 6.30 pm
Excursions also depart daily at 9.30 am October to April, returning at 1.30 pm, with the Friday and Sunday morning trips going to the end of the line at Middlemarch returning at 3.25 pm
