Experience the wonders of Central Otago with the fantastic
seasonal sights few get to see, from the dry valley floors to
the panoramic views that can only be seen from the mountain summits.
Safari Excursions will show you the unique rocky landscape, take
you exploring the old historical goldfield sites or go on some
of the various nature wildflower walks. It is a wonderful opportunity
to take your camera, as the fresh air of Central Otago makes
it a photographer's dream come true. All walks are led by a guided
tour operator with an appropriate handout of the walk - some
with a detailed plant list.
Your voucher entitles you to a half-day tour that can either
focus on alpine flora, fabulous views, goldfield sites, wildflowers
and local heritage or be a mix of all of these options - this
is your choice.
Wildflower Walks
As you climb further up the Mountains like the Old Man Range, Dunstan Mountains, Mount Benger, you will see wild flowers endemic to not only New Zealand, but also to
the region. As you climb further up the mountains, you will see
the flora change and become more native.
Historical Goldfield Visits
Get an insight on the gold mining days by walking to places such
as Earnscleugh Tailing, Bannockburn (Stewart Town), St Bathans
(Old township/Blue Lake), Naseby, Bendigo, Thomson Gorge, Nevis Valley and so on.
Heritage Tours/Walks
Spend a half-day tour that takes you to some of the early mining
site workings, and to some of the early building sites along
the Manuherikia River/Tuckers Diggins and across the Alexandra
Bridge to Conroy's Gully.
Times and Locations
Flowering time for the higher altitude plants starts from November with some still in flower even in May though mid December to February is when most are out flowering. However, nature makes each week/month have something special.
Trips depart from Alexandra and vary depending on the seasons.

Tours may be cancelled in unsuitable weather.
