Summit climb – The Summit Track is the most popular walk on Rangitoto, winding through lava fields and native forest to the peak for 360 degree views. Lava caves – Explore the island’s lava caves, about 45 minutes into your Summit Track journey. Located 200 metres from the summit on the eastern side. Beaches – Mckenzie Bay and Beacon Lighthouse – ideal swimming and picnic spot, view the iconic lighthouse. WHAT TO BRING Walking shoes, sun protection and warm layers, the weather can be changeable. As there are no shops on the island, bring a picnic lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
